The Next Twenty Years

The Next Twenty Years

Following on from our article, ‘Twenty Years On’, (click link to read) in which we celebrated twenty years since the inception of the work of Street Soccer Academy, we take a moment to consider the next twenty years and what these could look like for our organisation.

What will our world look like in the year 2045? In answer to this question your own personal take on the current state of play in politics and world governance will place you on a spectrum ranging from doom and gloom up to a technologically enhanced society full of endless opportunity. Wherever you sit on this spectrum it is difficult to argue that whatever the future holds it will bring change, which we will all need to embrace to survive.

For the leadership at Street Soccer Academy the conundrum of future proofing our organisation, making it as relevent in the next twenty years as it was for the last, is always at the forefront of our thinking. To assume our current delivery model and methods of engagement will remain as successful into the future would be an error. Modern trends definitely highlight that for our demographic of service user engagement with leisure and social activities is changing. In our experience too, the needs of our typical service users has changed from a heavy emphasis on a primary issue related to homelessness to a more recovery/dependency-based cohort. Who knows what the prevalent issues will be in the coming years? We remain ready to adapt.

Future-proofing our charity means building long-term resilience through strategic adaptation, focusing on diversified partnerships, strong digital presence, robust governance, data-driven impact measurement and financial foresight to help us navigate economic, technological and social changes effectively. We are well along many of these paths with recent investment into our reporting procedures and recruitment to our board of additional directors bringing specialist knowledge. We are continually discussing ways of embracing technology to enhance our core activities and like so many others, looking to develop our digital presence to keep pace with latest trends. It is in these areas though that we would be keen to hear from anyone with ideas and knowhow of how we can accelerate our development. The use of technology in the delivery of modern football coaching and games, development of arenas for the delivery of bespoke coaching & games,  together with enhancing our communication methods across all forms of media, are areas that we would be keen to discuss with anyone with relevent expertise or investment interest.

For Street Soccer Academy there are challenges ahead which we will embrace with excitement to see where opportunities take us. The only thing we know is guaranteed is that serving the needs of our service users (accommodation, employment, learning & skills, physical & mental health, family & community support, substance misuse and finance & budgeting) will remain our priority.
