Bring on the New Year

Street Soccer Academy CEO, Andy Thorp speaking at the launch event

During 2013 we have seen an increased number of homeless and vulnerable people fed, clothed, housed, employed and integrated into local communities. We have witnessed families becoming reconciled and positive relationships being built between isolated people and their friends, families and communities.

At Street Soccer Academy we begin 2014 full of optimism and excitement at what the future holds. We have plans to launch new regional centres locally in Greater Manchester and Lancashire as well as firm plans to export our model into the North East of England. We are also rolling out our new service, streetfit, which will enable us to work directly with the family unit. This is exciting news as we will be in the privileged position of helping provide real hope to disadvantaged individuals and families in other parts of the country who we are yet to meet. They have no idea that hope is on the way!

Homeless on the streetsOur work operates all year round, including during the Christmas period. It never fails to amaze me at the lack of professional support available to vulnerable people at this critical time of year. As many of us celebrate and spend time with our families relaxing, many of our beneficiaries face the toughest time of year. There have been a number of occasions where our staff and volunteers have been happily inconvenienced to bridge the void left by some professional agencies in order to provide what has been life saving interventions during the Christmas period.

I am so proud of our staff and volunteers. I can confidently state that we are first class at meeting immediate need no matter what and yet provide empowerment of the individuals so they may find long-term solutions to their problems. Our support network enables a rapid response when needed yet has the depth and substance to help create permanent solutions.

I look forward with great enthusiasm to 2014 and the opportunities for us to increase our reach into new communities and families lives by delivering excellence, generating hope, providing dignity and fuelling ambition.
